I have a Galaxy Nexus running a rooted ICS 4.0.1 ROM and JD Ultimate Beta 3.9.4. Whenever JD enables WiFi the WiFi signal meter ceases to work; the WiFi notification icon is present but no signal is reported (even though a solid connection is clearly present). When JD is disabled and WiFi is user-controlled, the signal strength is reported normally.

Have JD automatically toggle Airplane Mode on/off depending on cell signal to save battery life. There would be options for specific time duration and/or how weak the cell signal would have to be until it switches off as well as the duration of Airplane Mode until it starts to check for the signal strength, etc. Seems like right up JD's alley. :-)

I hope you are also in reach of your reading glasses; as in an effort to include all the information you will need I have written what is--I am almost certain--a report of above average length. However, I have separated the report into different sections to ensure ease of reading. This report is similar to one posted by another user almost a month ago (link: http://bit.ly/u8qP4e), but I am not convinced it is the same issue. Regardless, the previous report fails to adequately communicate the severity of the issue and provides almost no information that might assist in solving the problem (no offense to author intended). :::::::::: INTRODUCTION :::::::::: Before I say anything else, I want to thank you for making an absolutely amazing product; JuiceDefender is without a doubt the best $5 I have spent on my phone. Under heavy use, my battery lasts 2-3x longer, and uses almost no juice if it's not in use (the way it should be). Succinctly, I love your app; I was even asked on another forum if I worked for Latedroid because how often I praise its virtues. I wanted to mention this to make clear my motivation in writing this report. It's not because I am angry with any of you or because I think your product is the worst invention since reality television shows. On the contrary, I consider JD to be one of the most crucial applications on my phone, and I really--REALLY--want it working again, as do many others. It is my hope that in doing this, I will help this be accomplished swiftly. :::::::::: DEVICE INFORMATION :::::::::: NAME: LG Revolution MODEL #: VS910 4G OS: Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) [ROOTED] BASEBAND: VS910ZV7-M7X30-AABBQMLYM KERNEL: 2.6.35.7-perf SW Version: VS910ZV7 JD Version: 3.8.3Beta (Ultimate) [AOSP Helper successfully installed] :::::::::: THE PROBLEM :::::::::: <<< TLDR >>> In a nutshell, Juice Defender is "disabling" 3G/4G (hereafter referred to collectively as "data"), and restarting the phone appears to be the only means of restoring the data connection. Considering that JD worked almost flawlessly on my Revolution until it was upgraded from Froyo to GingerBread, I am inclined to think the problem may be a compatibility issue in GB. <<< Isolating the Issue >>> How do I know it's JuiceDefender causing the problem? I and many other people (most more knowledgeable than me) performed a fair amount of troubleshooting to ensure we were isolating the problem correctly and ruling out any extraneous variables. We've performed the standard tech procedures of manually enabling/disabling data, airplane mode, JD, etc. (countless times) and tried many other things in our desperation, all to no avail. Even disregarding all that, the problem ceases to exist when JD is disabled or uninstalled, so we're pretty certain we're not crazy. =] <<< Occurrence >>> Everything appears to function normally when the phone is first turned on/rebooted, but once the screen is turned off (which, in my case, disables both data and Wi-Fi), everything goes to hell. I could change the settings to not disable internet connections when I turn the screen off, but the problem would still occur the first time JD is triggered to turn off the data network. That is why there has been so much variance vis-à-vis when the problem occurs--we all have different triggers/controls/etc that would affect when data was being turned off for the first time. Put simply: 0) 4G/3G (data) works only as long as it hasn't been turned off by JuiceDefender. After JD disables data for the first time, it is completely disabled (though Wi-Fi still works) and can only be restored by restarting the phone. <<< Troubleshooting Information >>> To make matters worse, JuiceyDeucey not only blocks me from the interwebs, it taunts me! Don't believe me? Read on! I've included the bulk of the remaining information in these bullet points to avoid this becoming a novella. 1) 4G icon in notification bar is replaced with 3G (I know with certainty that I am in a 4G area). ----1a) 4G is still listed under [Settings > About Phone > Status > Network Type & Strength] (-103dBm) along with 1x (-96dBm). 2) The JD 2x1 widget frequently varies in how it reports the status of the data network, and it is often inconsistent with the actual system settings, the JD info panel in the pulldown menu, or both. ----2a) Using the JD Data Toggle widget to force disable data does not actually disable anything (nor does it remove the 3G icon from the notification bar). ----2b) Using the JD Data Toggle widget to force enable data does not cause data to resume functioning normally. 3) Disabling data within the phone's Mobile Network Settings does not remove the 3G icon from the notification bar (nor does reenabling it restore connectivity). ----3a) Same as #3. Only a system restart resumes data connectivity. ----3b) Completely disabling JuiceDefender also does not resolve the issue, unless it is disabled before it has a chance to turn off data (as mentioned in #0). ----3c) Enabling the [Mobile Data AutoFix] within JuiceDefender initially (seemingly) does nothing, but then disables data completely (but there's no 3G icon taunting me). 4) Data (including 4G) functions normally if JuiceDefender is disabled or uninstalled. ----4a) Data (including 4G) functions normally alongside JuiceDefender ONLY when all JD settings pertaining to control of the data network are disabled (auto sync not included). ----4b) The issue does not occur if the [Network Mode] within the phone's settings is changed to [CDMA Only]. With 4G disabled, everything appears to function normally, so it appears the problem lies within JD's attempts to switch to/from 4G. 5) This problem occurs both with and without AOSP Helper installed. Problem persists after formatting both the internal and external sdcard, performing a factory reset, and then installing JuiceDefender on a perfectly clean system. <<< JuiceDefender Logs >>> I replicated the issue and created several logs using the feature within the Beta version of JuiceDefender. I am sending several logs because I don't know exactly how the logging feature works, and I did not want to risk a crucial instant being absent. Unfortunately, this means there's likely a good bit of redundancy within the logs, and I apologize to whomever is responsible for sorting through them. Please note that I stated above that AOSP Helper was successfully installed, which it was, but these logs were made on a recently reset phone and I have not reinstalled the AOSP Helper at this point. I will include a brief explanation of the circumstances surrounding the time when the log was captured. There are a total of six (6) logs, which I will number in order of their occurrence. For your convenience, I have sent all six in a single E-Mail to [logs@latedroid.com] with the label "[LOG] [REVOLUTION] [DATA ISSUE]" including the attached .txt files and the content generated in the body of the email when a log is created. I hope you find this information helpful in determining the source of this problem. :::::::::: CONCLUSION :::::::::: I'd like to clarify that I am writing this report not strictly for myself, but on behalf of the dozens of LG Revolution owners within the XDA-Developers community. Many of us depend on JuiceDefender--including a large number who have purchased the Plus or Ultimate versions--to ensure our batteries will last an entire day (or two, or three) instead of 8 hours. Certainly you can understand our frustration when you make such an outstanding application, we purchase it and get hooked on it, and then suddenly take it away without warning! We even considered "Occupying" your front lawn, but we decided it was too cold outside. ;-) But seriously, there really are a number of people with Revolutions who tried JD but have yet to purchase JD Plus/Ultimate because of the compatibility issues; if you can fix this, then I'll finally be vindicated for my vehement support. I will encourage all of these Revolution owners (both current and potential customers) to follow the progress of this report and provide any information/assistance needed for a swift resolution of this problem and a return of our phones to their former glory. Just let us know what you need--logs, configuration schemes, TPS Reports, banana pudding pie--anything that's not too illegal, and I or someone else will be sure to avail it to you. Got the Galaxy S2 and Juice Defender 3.8 ultimate. Since then, after every night, my phone won't wake up. i have to hold down the power button and restart it. Then I can see in the Battery overview, that my phone tries to wakeup since hours and so the battery is draining really fast in this time. I've read in another forum that juicedefender causes this problem. Have you already heard of that? are you fixing this in the next version?

I pretty configured JD to do that but I noticed that some things don't work. - when I walk long distances or drive the car from my house to another place with wifi coverage when I get to the new place or go back home the phone will stay connected to 2G data and will connect back to wifi only when I switch the screen back on and unlock the phone, just the second after - it worked the first day but today the phone stayed on 2G all day even when I was using for 1h nowhere near "known" wifi coverage locations. It never switched to 3G while I was using. I didn't put the phone to "2g only" manually. The log doesn't show attempts to switch network type. - I noticed in the logs that when I'm on 2g/3g data JD continuously tries to enable and disable wifi every 1 minute at first and then every 3 minutes?! Does it try to do that when I'm near locations where known wifi network are available? Problem is that this happened even while I was driving, away from locations where I used wifi so it doesn't really explain why it does that! Doesn't this drain the battery? By the way what is difference between data and 3g in "keep enabled"? Thank you

Quick Box says "Data on (MMS)" and I don't know how to get rid of it. I have deleted all my messages, SMS and MMS. I am using Go SMS if that has anything to do with it, although it was fine until I updated just a few days ago. Also Quick Box now sometimes disables itself and I have to reselect it.

Advanced Brightness controls [updated]

I like the idea of the screen auto-brightness controlled by JD. However, up to v3.7.7 beat, I find the function a little bit simplistic. I agree it should stay simple for regular users. But for "power users" (as me), I would like an "advance" button which enables to setup a specific "sensor value">"brightness value" correspondence. It could be in a form of a table left column: "sensor value range", right column "brightness value". This would enable more battery savings. Thanks

Hi! I love JD. I bought plus, and after a couple of weeks I wanted the BT functionality, so I bought ultimate and it's great. I love the fact it's so simple to just plug my phone in my car charger and have it connect to my BT radio then turn off the BT radio when I exit the car. My request: it would be also super convenient if JD could also keep the screen on with backlight, and disable the lockscreen as long as the phone is connected to a charger. That way I won't have to unlock the phone while driving when I want to see maps, what music is playing, etc. Thanks :)

But since I don't want full backlight when I am reading with AC connection when it's dawn, the backlight setting should be per running/active application.

some public Wi-Fi hotspot requires login authentication that we usually don't have. they allows Wi-Fi device to associate but divert you to a login page before granting internet access. however JD will disable mobile once such Wi-Fi network connects, resulting in no internet access at all. suggest to detect if a real internet is available via wifi before disabling mobile data.

The juice defender icon is showing with the red dot (all radios/interfaces disabled) in the top left hand corner.
Currently stumped as to how to regain connectivity short of factory reset.

I've found out that APN is not restored, and I think this is because, when back to normal mode, the PIN to access the SIM is not requested, when it should. So, to sum up, Timeout function disables the requesting of the PIN somehow, so SIM is not available unless you turn mobile off and on.

There have been many questions about apps that do not want to behave with the normal time Schedule of JuiceDefender. This FAQ will address those questions. With some apps, like some (HTC) mail clients you do not receive E-mails when JuiceDefender enables mobile data according to the time schedule (e.G. every 15 minutes). JuiceDefender is able to control the Android OS native, built in "autosync" function. Some apps, unfortunately it is more a couple of, simply use this built in service. It is very easy for programmers to use it! Google provides all programmers with the necessary tools and a simple library. Still most apps like to use their own, subpar, mechanism for syncing with the server. Usually if an app notices the lack of an internet connection it should simply sleep until the internet comes back on and resume the schedule. Some apps, like Weatherbug, stop working if no internet connection is detected when they "like" it. As of now there is no way for JuiceDefender to change the code of all these apps that simply put are not "behaving" like they should. What would you, the users, do if you only receive a sms if you have service when your provider feels the need to deliver it and will never deliver it again? To put it in a nutshell: If your app does not use the already built in autosync function of Android and does not respond to the schedules we cannot do much about it. *Please* ask the coders to change their apps, because it is a) better and most importantly b) very very easy for them. There are some workarounds though that we can offer: If for example your stock app does not work with the automatic schedule use the peak schedule. You most likely do not need the stock app when the market is closed anyway, so JD can save at least some juice. If your app allows it, lower the time between schedules, thus increasing the chance for the two schedules to overlap. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I have gingerbread 2.3.4 and jd ultimate 3.9.4. I have a galaxy s2. It has happened to me twice until now, i cannot wake my phone and i have to keep the power button pressed until it reboots, i also had the message of the jd didnt shutdown correctly fingers crossed etc. I also have unkeylock installed for not having to unlock the screen everytime i wake up the phone, but reading these now i think the problem is jd because i have used 2 different "no screen lock" apps and with both i have had the not waking up problem. You can hear the volume button when you press it, but the screen wont turn back on unless you keep the power button pressed until it reboots. Help me please!

I downloaded ultimate. To save room on phone i removed the free version. Well as i later find out i need both for app to run. Anyways, the second time around i discover that my brightness control setting in jd doesent work now when it used to. My phone uses default settings but i want it lower.

there is a app called ShutUpBatterySaver http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.wjaxengineering.android.shutupbatterysaver well, it's simple, have a similar scheduler working like JD, and an extra, disable auto-sync base on signal strength just another feature you can have

After the time is completed, disable Airplane mode, re-check for network connectivity again, if there any, stayed connected, otherwise go back to Airplane mode.

If you're not using your phone all the time, disabling the appropriate radios is the way to go to save battery.

I am running stock moto rom on droid 2 global. Aosp helper installed sucessfully. whenever i turn off my screen it switches to 2g. but when i turn it back on it doesnt switch to 3g.

Apps trigger does not work (even if configured enable/screen off) I've been using both beta and stable version and in both as soon as screen goes off, data goes off as well

I have configured JD to keep the connection "enable/screen off" for the apps "Skype" and "IM+" (the latter with the additional "force" attribute). For Skype it works as expected. For IM+ it does only work if the app is running in the foreground. Thus the JD widget shows the green point and switching off the display keeps the data connection running. If IM+ is in the backround running JD do not notice the running app.

Hope this helps to reconstruct the problem.

Hi!! At first congratulations for this great app and sorry about my broken English!!! This is the best battery saver I've ever had!! The only problem i found is with whatsapp. Is it possible to make it run on background and receive push notifications??I have ultimate juice and I've excluded the app as service to make it run but I can't make it work. I don't care about receiving mails,Facebook,etc every 15 minutes but I really need to make whatsapp push messages work!! How can I configure it??? Thanks in advance!!!

Have to say JD is an awesome app and I was very pleased with the beta version. However, I was disappointed after encountering a few of the problems below: 1. I set my schedule to 15m, with 30s duration. Initially it works fine, but afterwards it doesn't seem to enable connectivity anymore. The logs say "schedule start/ stop" instead of "schedule start/ data enabled/ schedule stop". This seems to be affecting the ability for me to receive texts from Whatsapp, which I rely upon heavily. 2. I have settings "enable on unlock" on but it did not enable my data at all. Initially I lived with the flaw on the schedule section, waking up my phone manually once in while to check for updates. It was weird but I think JD was blocking my data? Settings on my Andriod indicates that data is on but there's no connectivity at all. I tried to switch it on/ off thru settings but to no avail. I always had to disable JD and restart my phone. 3. Now, JD just disables my data the moment I on my phone. No data at all. I had no choice but to uninstall JD but it's a really awesome app to let go completely. I'm on the earliest version of HTC Sensation with Andriod 2.3.3. I've re-installed JD countless times but the issues persists. Keeping data enabled is not an option because if that's the way, I wouldn't be downloading JD, would I? (:

After HTC sense unlock sense, i unlock it, sometime the mobile data running sometime not. i need to go quick settings there to turn off mobile data and turn it on again to have the mobile data on. The profile i set balanced, ( also had try aggesive ) also mobile data auto fix on. it does not help... oh yah also after unlock screen set on.

The remaining battery charge icon on my phone is not very useful - not exact. It would be a nice addition to add the battery charge percentage to the notification area.
