UPDATE: v3.6.8 is out (latestdev) with a brand new Location algorithm. For the sake of testing, please clear all your locations (or try the new view/auto-reset) and restart from scratch :)
Training works as before (conceptually) but the uber-expansion should be prevented in most cases.

    Ah, that’s interesting! (@Bubo)
This is what I mean by “location gets polluted by stray readings” – for whatever reason (ahem radio firmware bugs) the normal cell kicks out the phone, which then connects, even if for only a couple of seconds, to a cell much farther away; in the long term this will result in pitiful Location accuracy.

So, some possible ways to circumvent this:
    - have an option to set lat/lon/accuracy manually
    - have a manual ‘freeze’ button for each location that would prevent further “expansion”
    - have a global “max radius” option for all locations
    - have a supersmart and complex algorithm doing the “freezing”/max-radius-enforcing automatically by keeping track of location reading accuracies over several days (my favorite solution as it would imply me going into deep-coding mode possibly for weeks – it would also surely introduce bugs and unwanted side effects, at least for a while until they’re ironed out)

What’s your vote? And what are, in your opinion, the pros and cons of each solution? Or do you have a wholly different idea? DIZCUZ! :)

I would like a freeze button for Location! My ElCheapo Wifi router sometimes stops working (until I reset it). As a result, Location is confused: while inside my house, there sometimes is a good Wifi signal and sometimes none at all. A Freeze button would at least stop me from having to enable Wifi manually (and thus re-training Location) after resetting the router, right?

Also, my access point is slow, and I find that JD is too impatient in disabling Wifi - sometimes, five more seconds of wifi would be enough to obtain an IP address and thus a working connection.

(And yes, I know, I should buy a decent access point. They're expensive where I live :P)

Hmm... now i'm totally baffled.. have both 'home' and 'work' trained, and i've even manually edited the 'radius' of both to 500 meters ... just so there is no excuse for it to think i'm not in wifi range, regardless of 'location drift'...

I keep pressing "training" every time I get home, but it says 0% trained. Not sure what the settings should be and when to press "training" in order to get it trained. Any suggestions?

      • GarFinGarFin commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Yeah.. thinking its a 'radius' problem...

        Mine...

        'Home' (trained) is Radius:61m - Avg.Accuracy:61m - 1APs
        "Work' (training:70%) is Radius 314m - Avg.accuracy:74m - 3APs

Should i go into the 'View' for 'Home' and manually increase the radius ?

I left the house and returned. I waited for a wile and checked the phone. The WiFi had not been activated. I'll keep pressing the training button, but I'm not sure exactly when or how often I should do that. When I press "options," the "training" button is not illuminated. I press it and it lights up for a second, then goes off. Not sure if I'm doing any good. Any suggestions?

This morning, under Location, there was a "force complete training" button. I pressed it. Now, under my network name, it says, "Radius: 50m - Avg. accuracy: 50m - 1 APs." So, next time I leave the house, I'll see if it works. Looks promising!

Ok,so .. i've just been through the travel to work, and back home senario.. Nowhere in the JD+ logs do i see "No known Location" .. in the 'ongoing notification' pull-down , i do however , see 'Wifi off (location)' against JD+

Enabling Google maps does get things back on track..but i think thats because maps forces WIFI on .. so it finds my accesspoint, connects and then JD+'s 'home network 'keep alive' takes over from there ..

I have recently started "playing" with this again. Each time I come home, the WiFi has not been activated, so I turn it on, then go to the JDU location controls and press the Training button. Suddenly, I noticed that it now says "training 50%" instead of "training 50%" as it has for months. In the phone's Location settings, I have only "VZW location services" checked. I'll keep at it and let you know what happens.

I submitted the log after reproudecing the issue with your name in the subject a few days ago. I hope it can be of some assistance.

Right after you are at home, can you check what the log tells you? "No known location" ?
You can try opening google maps and see where you actually "are" (at least what google thinks ;))
Because in some cases your location doesn't update, opening google maps will toggle it though.

3.8.9 beta now , and Training is complete , yet WIFI still not reenabling by itself when i get home.

      • BreeceAdminBreece (Support, Latedroid) commented  ·   ·  Flag as inappropriate

Sorry I wasn't sure whether you tried the latestdev version :)
Can you please reproduce this problem then send me a log (help tab) with "breece" in the subject and a short description in the mail itself.
        Thank you very much :)

Location is working great, however the new keep enabled feature is not. If i manually enable it, it will stay connected and enabled no problem. But if i leave my house and go out of range it will no longer say Wifi Off (location) but Wifi Off (JuiceDefender). Same thing when i return i will have to manually re-enable it.

I really love the idea of this feature, as the only network i want to always be on when available is my home network.

P.S. I am using the latest version, and this is replicable every time 100 percent.

Hi, JD+ 3.8.8 beta , same config , similar issue.. WIFI typically doesn't reenable itself when i arrive home .. Training for home WIFI still at 90% after many days..

        Hey,

you should not leave GPS on all the time (just that once)
And even if training is done please try training the SSID that is not working again.
0% means that JD has not learned alot about the SSID. If its stuck, try clear
