Plus and Ultimate: purchase, download, install

Short version: most of the problems related to downloading/purchasing apps from the Market (e.g. JuiceDefender/Plus/Ultimate) are addressed here: https://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=known_issues.cs

Purchase and download

The card/payment method is refused or the purchase doesn’t get through

Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do. I do not process payments on the Android Market – Google does; so whatever the issue, it’s about Google Checkout, not JuiceDefender. However, most of the times the problem is specific to the credit card you’re using; it’s worth trying with a different card and/or seeking help at Checkout support – https://checkout.google.com/support/ – or at Market support – https://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/ – and/or contacting the card issuer for further assistance.
(it also seems that Google, on its end, is slowly sorting out most Checkout issues.)

The app is not downloading

If after clicking on “accept & buy” the download does not start within a few instants, do NOT cancel the purchase, or you will end up with an even more annoying problem (see below).
Have a bit of patience. It might take some time for Google/your credit card company to authorize the transaction. This is usually done within minutes or a few hours at most, but in some rare cases it might need up to two or three days.

Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do to speed up the process, so please just be patient and check the Market app every once in a while; at any rate rest assured that it will work eventually, or if it won’t you’ll be automatically notified that the transaction couldn’t be completed and was canceled (see the next question about attempting to purchase the app again); in this case your card will not be charged or the charge will be automatically reversed – see the previous question for further information. For step-by-step troubleshooting please see here: http://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=1067233

If the problem isn’t solved within a reasonable timeframe contact the Android Market support here: https://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/

Cannot download nor re-purchase the app after a previous order was canceled

Due to limitations in the Market, after an order is canceled (either by you or automatically by Google) it might take some time before you can attempt a second purchase. In the vast majority of instances it’s within a few hours, but in some cases it might be two or three days. Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do to speed up the process, so please just be patient and check the Market app every once in a while. If the problem isn’t solved within a reasonable timeframe contact the Android Market support here: https://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/

Installation and use

After opening the paid app I’m asked to download the free version

JuiceDefender Plus and JuiceDefender Ultimate are addons – they work on top of JuiceDefender (free) and they need it to be installed to work. So simply go ahead and download the free one as directed ;)

After downloading Plus/Ultimate I have two JD icons in the launcher

Don’t panic, a reboot should take care of the extra icon. On some devices, due to a bug in their stock launcher, both icons will remain; see here- for details. Do NOT uninstall JuiceDefender free trying to get rid of the extra icon as both Plus and Ultimate require it (see above).

Cannot open the app – tapping on the icon it says “App not installed”

This issue is related to the one above. A reboot should take care of it. If you are left with two icons (only one working) make sure you do not inadvertently uninstall JuiceDefender free nor Plus/Ultimate while trying to get rid of the extra icon, or JD won’t work. On some devices you’ll have to live with the two icons – sorry.

Can’t see any added functionality with Plus/Ultimate

If you’re using one of the preset profiles, Plus and Ultimate will add automated WiFi control to that profile. To enable other features you have to choose the “customize” or “advanced” profile. After you tap on either button, scroll down a bit and tap on “confirm”.

Also remember that some features might not be supported by your ROM.

Other frequent issues

After updating JuiceDefender free/Plus/Ultimate the app doesn’t work anymore

Sometimes Android doesn’t handle well app updates – it’s quite rare, but it happens. The solution, however, is simple and reasonably quick: uninstall JuiceDefender (the free one), reboot, and reinstall.
In case you encounter issues after restoring your settings (from About→Backup/Restore), try the uninstall/reinstall without restoring your settings – i.e. reconfigure your settings manually.

After switching to a new Google Account (on a new phone or after a factory reset) the Market doesn’t recognize the previously purchased apps

App purchases on the Android Market are linked to your Google account and the purchase never expires. So whenever you wipe your phone, or get a new one (or even a dozen), all your purchased apps will immediately be available (in fact they’ll be downloaded automatically) as long as you set up the phone with the same Google account that was used to purchase the apps in the first place.
So purchase licenses are tied to your Google account, and unfortunately Google doesn’t currently provide a way to transfer your purchases to another account. I think this is one of the things they should address, so if you are in this situation please contact Google – in the hope that if enough people complain they’ll do something about it.

The Android Market doesn’t allow paid apps in my country

Unfortunately all I can say is that other distribution options are being considered, but for the time being I can’t offer a solution. On the positive side, Google keeps working on bringing paid apps to more and more countries, so it might just be a matter of time!

JuiceDefender Ultimate “deprecated”: what’s the deal?

If you have the “deprecated” version – formerly called “alternative” – you DO NOT NEED to buy Ultimate again. Your version works and will be updated.
It’s marked as deprecated because in the past (for Market problems) some users required a slightly different version – that’s no longer necessary so this alternative legacy version is now exactly the same as the “regular” Ultimate.

JD shows “there was a problem checking the license”

The license check requires internet connectivity and some time. Once you enable JD, leave it running for a couple of hours. If you don’t have a data plan, please connect to a WiFi network.

Refund policy

If you want a refund, please use the “Contact Latedroid” link for your order at Checkout – http://checkout.google.com – and choose “I’d like to cancel my order”. All requests submitted within one week after the initial purchase will be honored – while the free JuiceDefender is more than enough to make an informed purchase decision, it’s also true that the Google-enforced 15 minutes refund window is ridiculous.
Note that once your order is cancelled you won’t be able to use any of the additional features.
Please allow some time (up to several weeks) for the transaction to be refunded.
Requests submitted via any other means cannot be taken into consideration due to limitations in Checkout.
