___________________________- Eternal truths set in stone
- Once you manually disable Wifi, JD will not touch it; as soon as you turn it on again JD will resume working normally – the “enabled by user” state only lasts two minutes.
If you enable and then disable WiFi while it was in disabled state by JD, (e.g. to scan for access points during a trip, with Location keeping WiFi off) nothing will change. This also applies when some other app does this (such as scheduled downloads in podcasting apps).- Location does NOT use GPS; GPS consumes battery and the benefit would be minimal, if any (as the GPS signal is usually absent inside buildings)
- Location DOES use both cell towers and nearby WiFi networks (the latter of course is only available when WiFi is enabled) for positional data; these… more

Please do this:
- get home
- turn on screen, WiFi is *not* enabled (due to Location)
- enable WiFi manually, let it connect
- wait 2 minutes
- turn off screen, wait 5/10 minutes
- turn on screen again
- if WiFi is again not reenabled, send a log (*mention the issue in the email*)

I finally updated the FAQ - please reread it, all your gripes are addressed.
(Breece inadvertently switched "enable" for "disable" and vice versa in his last comment - but it doesn't really matter anyway as that's going to change)

@Michael: it's very unlikely. I think the original bug has been "workaround-ed"; but the workaround itself (which is implemented internally as a trigger) might sometimes fail to engage - it'd only be a problem of interaction between the various triggers involved (Night, Schedule, Traffic etc.)
Try to see if you can consistently reproduce the problem with a specific set of JD settings, then I'll hopefully find the bug in JD's logic that fails to activate the workaround.

As you probably noticed, the feedback site is getting a bit of a overhaul (to better integrate "normal" support).
One consequence is that the private beta forum is no longer "private", but that's mostly just a formal difference, as it retains its structure, objectives and rules. But now, instead of being a separate entity, the beta forum lives within the main one under the "[BETA] Development" category. Basically everything that is under active research or development (fixes and new features) falls into this category. One nice side effect is that it'll be easier to move threads in and out of it as bugs are confirmed and then fixed or features agreed upon and then implemented.
This one remains the elected thread to be notified of important new builds and to know how you can help improve JuiceDefender, as from time to time I'll need (lots of) specific feedback from you guys.
Speaking of which:
- I still need more reports from LTE-capable phones - info here: http://feedback.latedroid.com/forums/70437-feedback/suggestions/2235451-4g-lte-support-
- Keep reporting any problem with the AOSP helper here: http://feedback.latedroid.com/forums/70437-general/suggestions/1053767-aosp-helper-all-you-need-to-know
- Location will get some improvement soon enough; please join the discussion and share your opinion here: http://feedback.latedroid.com/forums/70437-feedback/suggestions/1319595

So, v3.6.4 is available. Important stuff to know:
- AOSP helper on CM7 *should* work now. Discussion and feedback here: http://feedback.latedroid.com/forums/70437-general/suggestions/1053767-aosp-helper-all-you-need-to-know - BUT! DANGER! Nexus 1/S owners, beware of this issue: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2928 - it seems it's not fixed yet! If you dare testing network mode control, please share your findings!
- LG G2X: if you must have the 'use apn method' setting for JD to work, please re-send the report - data collection is now automated and the hash I'm using is different. Thanks!
- 4G LTE phones (so Verizon and AT&T only, if I'm not mistaken): help me out here: http://feedback.latedroid.com/forums/70439-juicedefender-private-beta/suggestions/2235451-4g-lte-support-

Hello everybody! I know it's been a loooooong time - sorry! :/
The good news: as you can see from the changelog there's been a lot of progress, and it'll keep coming!
v3.6.3 is an important build because it sports a new AOSP helper that *might* work also on your favorite non-AOSP (but rooted) ROM.
So:
- install v3.6.3, DO NOT TRY AOSP installation yet
- reboot into recovery/use rom manager/etc and do a full nandroid backup (seriously, do it!)
- go ahead and try the AOSP helper installation
- if the installation worked (and JD can control GPS or network mode switching), go to the bottom of the About tab and hit on 'send report' about the AOSP success
- if the installation fails miserably and *makes your device practically unusable* (yeah, it could happen!), nandroid restore then go to the About tab and hit on 'send report' about the FUBARing of your phone; please describe what happened
- in any case ALSO report your results on the general discussion thread ;)If this works, there's a chance JD will soon be capable of managing LTE (4G); but I'll have to prepare a new IGT first :)

Status update!
The short term plan is to get v2.x on the Market as quickly as possible. As you might have noticed, I'm encouraging Market users who experience problems to get the latest beta (often with nasty results :D ) since it's the only upgrade path. One problem with this approach is that the forums got quite messed up; there are often separate discussions about the same issue in the General forum and here.
So, if you want to start a new issue thread, **please do so in the General forum** for the time being - at this point there are many folks who are using v2.x but don't bother joining the beta group.
To make things better for everybody (and less housekeeping for me), PLEASE use the following guidelines when starting new threads:
- the TITLE should be a concise yet exhaustive description of the issue/bug; you should make it so that people with the *same* issue will easily find it and subscribe to it, while people with different issues won't
- the "BODY" should expand on the issue description if possible; ideally with relevant settings configurations and steps to reproduce. If you cannot provide detailed information, leave the body empty; add a comment to the thread insteadAlso: there's no going back! It's perfectly reasonable to *temporarily* revert to an older build if you encounter an issue/regression that makes JD unworkable; but please (reproduce and) report the bug first! It won't get magically fixed on its own :)
-----
Lastly, rest assured that the beta group still has its place; as soon as v2 is relatively stable (and on the Market), all the upcoming stuff - starting with a UI overhaul, but there's a lot more - will be extensively discussed (and eventually tested) here.

In the Market release (v1.8.8), the temporary solution is to disable both WiFi and Location.
Seems to be fixed in the v2 branch – if you’re interested you can get the latest experimental build at http://latedroid.com/beta/latest

Everybody! Try v2.1.4 (url above) and share your findings (it *won't* crash! I swear!)
I was assuming the bug was eventually fixed! Also, I'm guessing that enabling/disabling WiFi manually will make mobile data come back even when it shouldn't - please confirm.

@Martin: I updated the link first, then it took me a bit to actually upload the release (I had some weird problems with my build script) - loving the tester's eagerness though! :D
@Bycek: generally speaking, it shouldn't be necessary. But with the experimental builds I'm not really careful with cleaning up previous builds' "messes" (e.g. after removing or changing preferences) - so you might occasionally encounter weird bugs until a full reinstall. (Also, sometimes Android itself screws up the update process...)

- Weird errors/warnings in the log: you can safely disregard them in the _experimental_ branch - they're mostly for my own debugging purposes (not really errors)
- schedule had a bug that made it 'stick' occasionally (fixed in 2.0.4), but there might be some more
- please create appropriate threads for *different* bugs! Otherwise I can't keep track of bugs if reports are buried in comments on unrelated threads ;)
@Nikolaj: no, as Android takes care of tearing down the mobile connection when WiFi connects (at least on most devices)

Thanks for feedback (and the good news) guys!!
Yep, the Notification setting has been fixed already, along with a couple of 'silent' FCs.
Keep in mind that the v2 branch is still *very* unstable - I asked you to test it because I needed to know whether the workaround was functional; if you need a 100% working JD, revert back to v1.8.8 (and disable WiFi + Location to avoid the bug), and wait for v2 to be released on the Market (i.e. when it's stable enough); otherwise, feel free to install the experimental builds as they are released (you should then join the beta group if you haven't done so already - http://latedroid.com/beta)@Nikolaj: JD still enables data even if WiFi connects; so what you see on the widget is normal. (This *might* change in the future)

Martin, can you try disabling both "WiFi" and "Location" in JD, and confirm that in that case v1.8.2 works properly and v1.8.8 does not?

A probably misguided update:
- I have reasons to believe that Google "crowdsources", at least partially, data gathering for the location provider. If it's true - and I might very well be completely wrong - perhaps there's a way to "force" an improvement!
Gather a bunch of friends, organize one or more treasure hunt/geocaching games around your home/school/office, and have everybody walk around with Maps, WiFi and GPS on. Cons: everybody will seriously drain their batteries. Pros: fun! And if my hunch is right, it might (perhaps after some weeks) improve the location provider by feeding Google all that positional data; and if that turns out not to be the case:it's still nice to have a good time, no? ;)
Again, you can check whether the situation improves with Maps (GPS off). By all means if you try this crazy experiment let me know how it works!
