A “one time fix” is not worth alot, cause JD cannot use the GPS information in the future anyway.
Thats like having the GPS coordinations of your house but you only have a simple map :)

v3 should theoretically be able to determine on its own whether installation of the AOSP helper is possible. If not, 3G control will be hidden.
Anyway it might still fail to install the AOSP helper even when it thinks it’s possible. I’ll get around to update the threads in the general forum to gather more info.

Hi Mark,
At some point, you said AOSP Helper does not work with HTC sense roms. But actually I just found that actually AOSP Helper v2.0.2 can be installed with some of them.
Successful installation on Modaco MCR R9 for htc desire here :
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/317191/14-sep-r9-wip-modaco-custom-rom-for-htc-desire-online-kitchen-2-2-froyo/Failure to install on AuraxTSense v7.6.1 here : http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742371
Can you figure what does it take to get AOSP helper installed on Sense rom (if it's feasible on one it should be possible for other) and produce a tweak ? Or I could ask the author of AuraxTSense to correct its ROM but I wouldn't know what to ask him...
Keep the great work

PS I'm running an HTC Desire

Mark,
Now that I'm back from holidays and that you have fixed the RDBE bug, I'm now back on testing the Location feature. Here again I want to congratulate you because I find it much more efficient in version 2.1x than in the older versions < 2.xx.
Location works almost perfectly to me, and perfectly enough for my needs. What I notice has improved is that the radius of "Location On" has considerably reduced, so for instance I now have Location OFF when I'm in the office located 800m away from home, while in older version, I had most of the time Location ON when I was in the office.
The only thing weird is that radius seems larger when you walk away from the wifi location than when walk towards the wifi location: For instance when I quit home in the morniing, wifi location stays ON for about 200/300 meters, while when I go back home in the evening from the office, I get Location OFF until I'm actually inside the appartment.
That's not really a big issue with my settings, with data/wifi off when screen off and data/wifi on only when specific apps are running, I just need to not surf the internet or read my emails during the 1st 5 minutes I walk away from home ;)
My last comment would be a request: could you please make the Clear Locations fonction selective according to which location you want to clear instead of the current "clear all" by default.Keep the good work

UI-related issue should be fixed with v3 ;) (ok, it’s not still crystal-clear, but it’s a huge improvement over v2)
Full-fledged firewall app: months ago I’ve been studying the possibility; it definitely requires ROM integration – and if some day I’ll have some spare time I’ll definitely want to contribute to some of the projects that are trying to address the issue.

Where do you see an eye and a gear?! With the green arrows I see a flower and a mushroom...
All this to say that these icons are too confusing... I would suggest you use one separate color for each category, such as red (forced off), green (forced on in background) and yellow (forced on in foreground only) -

Welcome back! :)
The AOSP helper only works with AOSP-“signed” ROMs.
The one that will surely do is CyanogenMod (and possibly, but not necessarily, derived ROMs).
It used to work also on stock (Google’s) Eclair for N1 – didn’t test stock Froyo yet so I can’t say if that’s still true.
Also, AFAIK any ROM with Sense is excluded, unfortunately – those are signed with HTC’s supersecret cert :)

Implemented in the UI in v3.2.2 – find it in the “about” tab.
It should still be able to automatically retrieve your backed up settings after uninstall/reinstall – but you’ll have to do the actual restore explicitly.

I was going to suggest that too...
In particular, setting the apps control is pretty tedious when you have many apps and keep testing new roms and new installs of JD...

Ooops! Sorry I had not seen that you had started a specific post in the general JD forum about AOSP explained where you are asking for report of AOSP helper being installed with a stock rom (such as sense rom). I will also put my link there then
